Udupi: KORWA distributes school bags to needy children at Kallianpur
Udupi:
Konkan Overseas Returnees Welfare Association (KORWA) on Saturday June 4 distributed school bags to needy, deserving children in a simple ceremony at Milagres School hall at Kallianpur.
The school bags were distributed to 650 under privileged school children of St Joseph Higher Primary School, L.V.P. Higher Primary school, etc at Kallianpur, Udupi district. Sr Susheela Monteiro UFS headmistress of St Joseph Higher Primary school welcomed the gathering.
Addressing the students, Louis Lobo, president of Korwa said, "KORWA is an association formed by a group of people who have returned from the Gulf region, for the welfare of Gulf returnees and needy people in their homeland. After returning from abroad in order to give something back to society, we formed this organization. Students should work hard and study well in order to succeed in life."

Mangaluru: KORWA extends helping hand to 500 needy children
Mangaluru:
Konkan Overseas Returnees Welfare Association (KORWA) on Sunday June 28 distributed school bags and books to needy, deserving children in a simple ceremony at Milagres hall here. Bags and school books were distributed to 500 children of St Joseph the Worker School, St Rita Higher Primary School, Government Higher Primary School, Al Hazan School and many other schools.
Addressing the students, Mangaluru south MLA J R Lobo said, "KORWA is an association formed by a group of people who have returned from the Gulf region, for the welfare of Gulf returnees and needy people in their homeland. After completing their education they went abroad in search of jobs, and in order to give something back to society they formed this organization.

Mangalore, 17 Jun 2014: Konkani Overseas Returnees Welfare Association (KORWA) donated gifts to the inmates of Our Lady of Mercy orphanage, Panir, here on Monday June 16.
KORWA president Louis Lobo presented the gifts to 79 students at the orphanage, Panir here on Monday. KORWA secretary Jacinta Pinto, PRO John Valerian Tauro, former mayor Judith Mascarenhas, John Fernandes, social activist and philanthropist Santosh Sequeira, Our Lady of Mercy orphanage superior Sr Luciana, 2 German volunteers and others were present on the occasion.
KORWA is actively involved in social welfare activities bringing ray of hope among the unfortunate children and HIV+ children in both Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts.

Mangalore, 06 March 2014: The members of Konkani Overseas Returnees Welfare Association (KORWA) paid a visit and distributed stationery items to the poor and needy students of St Xavier's Higher Primary School, Neerude , and shared their joy on Wednesday March 05, 2014. This School is runs the classes from I to VII Standard. The children who study here are from a very poor and below the poverty line families.

St Xavier's Higher Primary School head teacher welcomed the gathering and introduced the committee members of the KORWA namely: Mr. Louis Lobo, President; Mr. Elias Sanctis Vice President; Mrs. Flora Hislop, Joint Secretary; Mrs. Jessie Pinto, General Secretary. and Mrs Gretta Gomes. She also expressed her gratitude to KORWA for donating the stationery items to the students.
The students offered prayers during the assembly held in school hall and expressed their happiness for getting the stationery items and appreciated KORWA members in gratitude.
KORWA advised the students to work hard on their studies and wished them a bright future. Rev. Fr. Archibald J. Albuquerque Parish Priest of Neerude Church was present and expressed his joy of witnessing such an social work done by KORWA Association. He prayed and wished for growth of the Association. Mangalore, 14 Dec 2013 : Konkan Overseas Returnees Welfare Association (KORWA) has donated an Invertor to one of Prajna's Counselling Centre Mangalore. Prajna has been taking care of 40-50 under privileged children. When there is a power cut children used to suffer a lot as all of them are studying. The children were very happy to receive the Invertor and appreciated the members of KORWA for their generosity towards the poor people. The Management of Prajna thanked KORWA and wished them all the best for their Charity event "Christmas Celebration 2013" which is going to take place on 14th December 2013 at Loyola Hall, St. Aloysius College Mangalore from 5.00pm till 9.30 pm.

Mangalore, 13 Aug 2013: The members of Konkani Overseas Returnees Welfare Association (KORWA) paid a visit to Jeevadaan HIV/AIDS Centre located at Gurpur – Kaikamba, near here on Monday August 12. KORWA donated groceries to the authorities of Jeevadaan on the occasion. Besides, distributed goodies to AIDS children and shared their joy.
Jeevadaan, the care and support centre for HIV/AIDS is a non profit organization established by the society of the Daughters of St Camillus.

Mangalore, 05 Sep 2012: A well known social worker Mr. Peter D'Souza (who was also a close friend of KCWA member Late Mr. Johny Surathkal) contacted one of the Committee members of Konkan Overseas Returnees Welfare Association (KORWA) Mangalore (Mrs. Jessy Pinto) and reported the ill health and financial problems of Lavina D'Souza a young helpless girl of 21 years from Surathkal suffering from a brain tumour.
Jessie Pinto felt that some help has to be extended to this needy patient and therefore, the KORWA President and some members came forward and hand-delivered a cheque worth of RS.17,500/- towards Lavina's treatment and also assured their prayers and helping hand to her.

Mangalore, 14 August 2012: Konkan Overseas Returnees Welfare Association's (KORWA) President Mr. Louis Lobo, Vice President Mr. Elias Sanctis, Secretary Mrs. Jessie Pinto and Cultural representatives Mr. David D'Souza and Mr. John Fernandes visited St. Joseph's Primary School (Kannada Medium) , Nanthoor on 13th August 2012.
One of the teachers of the school, Mrs. Leena D'Silva had approached KORWA Committee and had submitted an appeal to help her school children who are all from poor families. Hence, the KORWA committee had decided to help the children in any possible way. The committee which visited the school on 13th August 2012 gave each child a school bag, one steel plate and a cup.

Mangalore, 15 Jul 2012: Recently, some of the members of the Konkan Overseas Returnees Welfare Association (KORWA) visited 'Samvedhana' the shelter for the HIV affected children and spent some time with them.
From around 15 years Citizens Alliance for Rural Development and Training Society (CARDTS) Press Association, United Business Media and YMCA Mangalore has been working spreading awareness regarding HIV among truckers, migrants and commercial sex-workers by talking to them and also by explaining to them the ways to prevent HIV by having safe sex. As the volunteers were conducting these programs and were visiting different houses, they found a girl who was HIV Positive. Her parents had passed away. The people who were looking after her requested the volunteers to take the kid along with them to their organization.
